One of those Weeks

It has been one of those weeks - things are just going wrong. I made a horrible dinner, kids having school issues, broken furniture and just a general feeling of disarray. I can't wait for the weekend. The outfit today is easy, I'm afraid to try anything else. Here's hoping that next week is better than this one.

British Casual Fridays

I don't know where the title came from, I just feel very British. Like I need to be in the country or something, at Downton. Except without the heels. With the heels I think this is a great look for the office on a Friday or running around doing errands and then going for lunch with some girlfriends. Love the layers, I know I'm biased but I like it...No I love it.

The above picture is one of the few that looked good without my son running around me. Wait till you see...

This blazer is 3/4 sleeve and so is the white button down I'm wearing. This allowed me to wear the blazer cuffed and I think that little detail just makes the shirt pop and makes the outfit that much more interesting. It's all about the details.

 When I first tried this look I rolled the jeans. The jeans are more slim then a true skinny.

So what do you think, keep the scarf or lose it?

Why leopard? Because it really is unexpected. This outfit is very "business" the shoes are fun and sexy.  The outfit may be men's inspired but I am all woman. ROAR.

My son is running around me playing with a ball and I've given up trying to get him away from me and the camera, then the kid pings me in the back of the head with the ball. Honestly I was laughing for a good minute. You either cry or laugh, I decided to laugh. That is one of my parenting strategies in real life. My boys broke my canopy bed by hanging off one of rails a few weeks ago. I laughed.

Ah some time alone. So what are you opinions?

Surprise! - This is What I Wore

My girlfriend had a surprise birthday luncheon with her close girlfriends - best surprise ever - her birthday is in November, luncheon end of September. The look on her face was priceless!

It is driving me crazy that this shirt is wrinkled!! I wore it to the party, got home and took the pictures. Missed it.

Stepford Wife

Sometimes I get into these moods when I'm picking out my clothes, I pick out a uniform or a costume. Today I am channelling my inner Stepford wife. I love this cardigan from H&M (not a big fan of their disposable fashion, it goes back to fit and being six feet tall), its part or their baroque line. The coral colour and the rhinestone buttons are what attracted me to it in the first place. In the store they had paired it with brocade pants in gold and coral. I loved the pants, I just wouldn't wear them because of my "lifestyle" plus they would be too short on me. I'm pretty sure that Avril from Schoolgate Style tried them on and she looked fab.

Anyway back to being a Stepford wife...certain cardigans say perfect suburban wife and this one was screaming it when I paired it with my jeans. I felt like my name should be Bitsie or something and I was going to make sure that my home was the epitome of perfection for my man. Hahaha! It's fun to play make believe.

 Now the question becomes tucked or untucked?

This cardigan is great but it likes to ride up because of my height. So for me I prefer something underneath. Just a cautionary tale.

Face On

I always try to post my best face/outfit when I do this blog, because honestly if I didn't would you follow me or read this blog? I mean I named it "One Chic Mom" so there are some expectations on your part. Don't blame you. There are days when I wake up and just don't know what to wear or care what I'm putting on. If I'm going to stay home then I can just wear whatever I find on the floor and get on with my day. If I am heading out in public I feel like I should put some effort into my appearance especially since I started this blog. When I have gone out in public without any effort my husband chuckles and says he's going to take a picture and post it.

So when I woke up today I had a lot I needed to accomplish and no desire to put my face on. I wanted something simple and started with jeans and a t-shirt. I knew I would be seeing lots of people and felt I needed to kick it up a notch. So I did what I do best, I added a blazer and some jewelry and BAM, I was public ready. Now the fact that I haven't washed my hair in 3 days (I've showered just not washed my hair) was rectified by using John Freida dry shampoo.

Not sure if you can tell in this picture but this tee has gold "glitter" all over it (I really could not think of another word to describe the gold flecks). Pretty basic outfit, nothing fancy. Great for running around with the kids.

All I did was add a blazer and some accessories. I look like a different person and you are all marveling at how I get so much done with my gaggle of children. This look took an extra 30 seconds to place on my body.

When I tucked in the t-shirt I think it looks better. Who knew?

This outfit is very similar in structure to a post I wrote last week "Red White & Blue", who cares! That's how people in the real world dress, change out a top and add a necklace. Who has time to always look so different? Apparently I don't even have time to wash my hair! Happy Hump Day!

This is Me Doing Edgy

I'm not edgy, never have been, edgy is Sheree from "It's not that deep". I love edgy and how Sheree does it so effortlessly, wish I had more of it. However, I'm okay with that, I'm a classic dresser who follows a few trends a season. Now I do love the look of edgy and I try to incorporate pieces of it into some of my outfits. That's what is fun about fashion.

Rain Rain Go Away...

The rain has been following me, on Thursday it escorted me to Windsor...it even made an appearance  in Las Vegas...and then gave me some more wet kisses in Detroit this morning. The weather has not been very summer like these last several days so I've had to dress accordingly. However, just because it's been grey outside doesn't mean I have to dress dreary, so a pop a colour is what I was sporting. The colour of the season is orange so I did my fashion duty and bought something orange, a beautiful light weight knit top. The best thing about this top (besides the colour and boxy cut) is it is transitional - great for summer and fall.

In these pictures I wore little heels, not great for wet weather, but there was no way I was putting on rain boots. I do not understand why I was so adamant about the constricting foot wear. My feet are just not ready to be covered I guess.

My Black Top Again

So yesterday I posted a few pictures of me in black and today I am featuring the same top with a little change up because isn't that how we dress in the real world?

I wore this outfit for lunch with the girls.

Stripes - Mix and Match

When we purchase an article of clothing I think the end goal is to be able to wear it with multiple items in our closet. I'm not saying I always do that, but again that's the end goal. So here is another striped top styled with two different bottoms. I've already attained my goal and it's not even lunch.

Just remember that navy is a great neutral and can be paired with so many different colours - try green, yellow or even pink. The possibilities are endless.

If I was wearing Khakis I would be very East coast.

When layering it is always a nice touch to have the cuff of a button down shirt fold over the layering top. Just looks finished.

Back view, yeah! Saggy jeans just make your butt look bigger, why do that to your butt? I'm no JLo, now these jeans have great pocket placement and are a very slimming dark denim.

Pearls just seem to dress up this outfit, great for a casual Friday at work. Pair it with heels, great bag and you can go to lunch with the girls or even a nice dinner.

Folding the jeans makes the outfit look more casual. If I unfold the jeans add heels and a red clutch (any colour will do) I would be ready to go out. Outfit takes you from day to night.
