Monochromatic - I'm Seeing Blue

When I venture into the monochromatic look I make sure that whatever colour I decide to wear that the hues are the same tone. Let me explain, when I mix my reds I make sure that they have a blue undertone and not the orange of a tomato red, or if I wear yellow I wear lemon yellow instead of shades of mustard. If you're having difficulty the easiest way to visualize colours of the same tone is to look at a colour wheel. You can purchase them at any craft stores and they will help you with monochromatic looks or mixing colours (great for interior design, scrapbooking, party planning for colour schemes...I digress).

Now that Spring seems to be with us (I hope I didn't jinx us) I'll be wearing more dresses. I love blue - especially Navy and Cobalt. The two were easy to mix - navy dress & cobalt coat that have deep undertones. In photos the colours look to be exact and matching coat/dress or skirt/coats are very retro and reminiscent of the 50s & 60s. I could see Joan, Betty or Peggy wearing this outfit. I wore it to my children's First Communion and Jadran's Croatian Canadian Folklore banquet (where my 3 oldest children performed). The dress is really kid friendly and stays in place (had a little incident with a v-neck cross over dress). Fabric is pretty thick so it doesn't show anything. You know how much I hate pucker/cellulite peering through fabrics.

This is a very high neckline which made accessories easy, I decided to do a chunky cuff.

A Peak into Spring

I LOVE NAUTICAL STRIPES, in case you were wondering. When Fashion Magazine challenged us to style stripes (excluding the typical striped top) I knew I would be wearing this blazer. I think of navy as a neutral and knew this blazer could be easily incorporated into my wardrobe. I wanted to wear some colour and wore this emerald green blouse and topped it off with this white statement necklace.

Sandy Came and Went, She is NOT Very Nice

Sandy is wreaking havoc on the East coast of the U.S. and Canada. While I am writing this there are 6000 people without power in the city of Toronto. There is a lot of rain and high winds and I'm afraid to go to bed. There are trees all around me and I'm afraid one will crash on my house. I better knock on wood. Okay did it and now I'm back.

Last week the ladies of Carriage Trade told me to come on over and try on their beautiful clothing and jewelry for upcoming posts. I love that store and the best part is I get to wear their beautiful pieces and my husband doesn't freak out because our credit card statement stays reasonable because I don't have to buy anything. But I'm just wondering if there isn't a party or two I could wear this dress too...damn beautiful clothing at Carriage Trade...

Not sure if you noticed but I went back to my roots (literally). I like to go dark in the fall/winter seasons. It's only hair and I can dye it back in a month. I didn't think like this when I was in high school. As a young woman your hair was a big deal! It's still a big deal, we all talk about good hair days and bad hair days. I would never have dyed my hair on a whim or cut off that much length when I was younger. Now I'll take more risk. I won't be sporting a short crop, only because I wore my hair like that in my early twenties and it's not my best look.

There was one Croatian girl I grew up with who had the guts to do whatever she wanted with her hair - her name was Alison and she was fierce. Honestly she would have blond hair my length and then come to kolo practice with black spiky hair. I never knew what she was going to do next and I was always in awe of the fact she just did it. How many high school girls did you know who would do that?

I love that I can play with the ruching of this dress. Just move the folds to cover the areas you want to hide. I know you can't hide too much but that's what body slimmers are for, non?

Who needs a little black dress? Purple will do!

This is Me Doing Edgy

I'm not edgy, never have been, edgy is Sheree from "It's not that deep". I love edgy and how Sheree does it so effortlessly, wish I had more of it. However, I'm okay with that, I'm a classic dresser who follows a few trends a season. Now I do love the look of edgy and I try to incorporate pieces of it into some of my outfits. That's what is fun about fashion.

Here is how I do edgy...

Red White and Blue Part 2 - The Flip

I don't know what this says about me, too many blazers and coloured denim? Is that even possible? Don't ask my husband or kum Nick or even Dan (insert almost any other male in place of the ones I've chosen).

On a personal note, unfortunately I am not able to be at two places at once (when is this going to be possible?), therefore, I am going to miss Tina's wedding (one of THE weddings of the year). I just wanted to wish Tina and Cam all the best on Saturday and I hope they have a great wedding and an even better marriage.

Working Girl Wednesdays - Green Dress

A simple green dress from Ann Taylor and a couple of ideas...

Just a few words of caution - firstly wear Spanx because this slinky fabric (95% Polyester and 5% Spandex) is not forgiving and secondly if it is a hot day and you will be perspiring do not wear this dress, it will show everything. Just need to be prepared for this.

A chunky statement necklace is the easiest way to accessorize this dress.

Adding a great blue (I had to pair it with navy) blazer makes it that much more office ready - black, grey or even brown would work as well. You all know how much I love navy...

I decided to try a thick belt with this dress as well and really like how it looks. If I had selected a skinny belt I would have added a chunky necklace for more visual interest.
