Black & White - Not just for Jailbirds

Yesterday I was raving about colour and how everyone should wear it and today I am wearing black and white. The fickle world of fashion...I've been covering World MasterCard Fashion Week (#WMCFW) in Toronto for QMI Agency (took today off, however, you can find me here, here or here) and one very strong trend that will carry on into Fall/Winter '13 is black and white. This is something I can get on board with as long as it doesn't over take all the strides I've made in embracing colour and patters. The 90s were all about black and it felt like a really long funeral.

The Joe Fresh show was almost entirely void of any colour. It was a huge risk and I think it paid off. Other fashion lines like Pink Tartan, Mackage, Matis, Line and David Dixon all had elements of B&W in their shows. Why mess with a sure thing?

I find when wearing B&W I always wear red lips. Something needs to pop!

Another popular trend that will continue well into Winter of '13 is peplum. Yeah!! I love the femininity of this trend.

I purchased these shoes at least 7 years ago. Classics last forever!

I plan on doing a Fashion Week Wrap up this weekend. I am enjoying my first time at the shows and hope to share a bit of what I've learned.

Sunshine

We really need some - weather in Toronto has been erratic at best. So when I saw this beautiful yellow peplum sweater at Banana Republic I just couldn't resist. It reminds me of spring and summer and I'm sure we could all use some sunshine on days like these.

This is the last post featuring my brother-in-law Kevin from Kaptured Memories. I would hire him if he didn't live 4 hours away and if I could pay him in appreciation.

My obsession with peplum continues. When purchasing this sweater I bought a Medium because it was longer in the torso and allowed the peplum to drape nicer and longer.

I can't get enough of the pleating in back. Love the shape it is giving me.

This is Me

"Peplum - Short overskirt that is usually attached to a fitted jacket, blouse or dress"
Wikipedia

This is my favourite new trend. Why? Because to me it says "feminine", and I love being a woman.  The overskirt detail highlights the smallest part of me and hides any overhang that birthing four children has resulted in. What's not to love?

This blouse also hits another trend polka dots, plus, I enjoy a red, white and blue colour combo.

Another great thing is I paired this blouse with red denim...thinking about my green pants too...maybe too much...I do have white...then there are the skirt options...

I feel pretty and that's another reason why I love peplum.

I wore a big chunky necklace because the top has a small pattern and needed some contrast, a small necklace would have been lost.

My youngest just fell over in his little play car. I am trying not to make a big deal of it...Okay I am lying... I am trying not to laugh at him.

Blouse - H&M, Pants - Joe Fresh, Necklace - Joe Fresh, Shoes - BCBG (old)

This outfit captures who I am, I know it sounds bizarre but don't we all have a few favourite outfits that we feel the most like ourselves in? This is me.

The best thing about this outfit is that the pants, blouse and necklace combined cost less than the shoes...honestly!

I forgot the bracelets...again...next time...
